Working Undercover

Tony had gotten to the point where he hated being in this club without Gibbs at his side... or at his back as the case might be considering what was going on. The small bit of pressure in his ear reminded him that Jethro was just outside, listening in to what was going on as well as quietly speaking to Tony now and again. Tony also had a small mic just beneath the inside of his jeans that would transmit everything back to Jethro, too.

This was the fourth night he'd been in here, six nights since the last sub had gone missing after leaving the club alone. Tony was getting restless.

"Jethro... how much longer do I need to stay in here? It's almost two in the morning and still nothing. And if blondie over there doesn't stop looking at me like I'm some kind of snack he wants to eat, I'm gonna smack him..."

"Just tell me, Ducky." It's firm and he doesn't want to be lied to nor does he want anything hidden from him.

"It's not good, Jethro," he said quietly. "He's been beaten badly enough that he has two broken ribs on each side which means there could be itnernal bleeding. I won't know for sure until we get to the hospital. He was whipped, as were the other subs in the room... but he could have scars from it on his back depending on how well he heals. All of this is just physical and I fear I will find more one I can examine him more... fully at the hospital. I can not attest to what his emotional state will be like once he regains full consciousness..."

Tony whimpered softly and grabbed at Jethro's arm.

"Pl-please... w-want t-to go... out of h-here..."

The more he was told the more it pissed him off. He should've pulled his boy out immediately. Though if he'd done that then they'd of never found the other subs. They'd never of found any of them alive is more like it.

"Then lets get him to the hospital, Duck. I want my boy to be okay." As okay as one could be going through something like this.

Ducky nodded as Jimmy came down the stairs and stopped short at what he saw. He closed his eyes a moment and walked straight to where Ducky and Jethro were with Tony and helped Ducky start moving the gurney back upstairs and out to the ambulance.

Gibbs doesn't say a word just sticks close. It's all that he really can do considering the situation at hand. But once at the hospital, he stays to his boy's room taking Tony's hand.

At the hospital, everything was a blurr to Tony as Ducky took complete charge of the younger man's care, calling in Dr. Pitt when he realized that Tony's lungs could have been compromised.

Three hours later, Tony was sleeping , having been lightly sedated and given pain meds, and Ducky was sitting with Jethro going over his current findings.

"It's going to take several weeks of physical therapy for that knee of his to heal, Jethro," Ducky said quietly. "Whoever it was that did this to him knew just how to hurt him without killing him, but only barely."

Gibbs shakes his head but listens to Ducky giving a nod, "I know, Duck. That's not something that's going to continue either." He'd make sure that it never happened again. There's a tone to the Marines's voice that states he's serious.

Ducky heard the tone in Jethro's voice but found he couldn't argue against it.

"He will also need to see a psychiatrist, Jethro. I know you and he share the same opinions on this but with everything that happened to him, if he does not talk to someone, he could very well try to hide it from you and from himself and you know what will happen when he finally breaks. It could cost him his career."

"He's not seeing a psychiatrist, Duck. He has me and my boy wouldn't hide anything from me." It's firm and the ME knew damn good and well he wouldn't put his boy through a psychiatrist. Tony didn't need one when he had him.

"Nothing will cost him his career and he'll be fine."

"Jethro, that boy was put through hell and he will not be cleared to go back into the field until he speaks to someone other than you. I'm sorry, but you know that is how things work." Ducky left the rest of the findings file with the other man before he stood and left the room.

A couple of hours later, Tony opened his eyes, whimpering softly at the light...

There was a part of Jethro that wanted to tell Ducky if he was going to pull that then NCIS would lose two of their best agents especially when his boy didn't need anyone but him to talk to. He doesn't though and just sits there going through the files.

"You're alright, DiNozzo."

He does, however, turn down the lights.

Tony didn't move for a few moments after the lights turned down but finally, he turned a little, even though it was painful for him to do so, and tried to find Jethro in the room.

"How... how long...?"

He reached out taking his boy's hand giving it a slight squeeze. He didn't want to talk about any of this himself.

"A few weeks."

Tony closed his eyes again, tears falling down his face as Jethro took his hand.

"I'm sorry, master," he whispered harshly. "I screwed up... I..."

"Shhh..."

He leans over and kisses his boy softly.

"No you didn't, DiNozzo. I should've pulled you out before anything happened or went in with you."

Tony is quiet for several minutes before he speaks again.

"The other subs... what about... them? There were... seven more... and the guy that took me... Jethro... it was the guy you... the one you had banned..."

"We lost three of them," he says softly before leaning over and kissing him. "I know, DiNozzo. He won't be hurting anyone ever again."

"Three... oh gods... it wasn't a dream then... that fucking bastard..." he broke down even more, clinging tightly to Jethro's hands as more tears fell down his face.
